Penelope As A Women

The story of Odysseus is the ultimate family story, a tale of a man trying to return home from a long bloody war to his wife and child. Because of his long journey to Ithaca people live in Ithaca belive that he is no more alive. To get kingship of Ithaca marriage with , Penelope (wife of Odysseus) is the only way. Many suitors invade the palace of Odysseus and they pillage the assets of him. Penelope does not give up waiting for her husband and she detains the suitors by deceiving. After Odyseus returned his home this sad story is ended with death of the suitors. Many times throughout the poem Penelope cries herself to sleep, longing for word of her husband's welfare. Penelope introduces him to the audiences in her praises of him, saying: " My lord, my lion heart, gone, long ago_ the bravest man, and best, of the Danaans, famous through Hellas and the Argive midlands."(74) After nearly twenty years, Penelope still sings praises of her husband. At any time Penelope could have married one of the suitors and provided a father figure for her son. The fact that she doesn't succumb to this demonstrates her undying loyalty to her husband.

The deceptive and cunning Clytemnestra, is one who hold the exact opposite traits compared to Penelope. Her husband (Agamemnon) was the one of the warrior o
