Since the first Europeans landed in North America, the American Dream has been to achieve freedom and a fuller, happier, and richer life. Each succeeding generation has achieved the American Dream at a higher level than the previous generation. In many ways, this American Dream began to be shattered with the introduction of coke and crack cocaine in the mid 1980’s. Not only were the lives of cocaine users destroyed, the innocent children of cocaine using mothers, crack babies, were permanently and tragically effected. This generation of crack users was unable to achieve the American Dream and most of the crack babies wound up in foster care at a tremendous cost to society. However, as the use of crack declines, a new “drug of choice” is exploding upon society. This drug threatens to destroy the youth of today just as cocaine has done. Ecstasy, the drug of choice for the late 90’s and the early millennia, thwarts the youth of America by destroying their mentality at a young age by luring them into a state of euphoria. However, this state of euphoria has a darker side, because it destroys the user’s brain, causing severe and permanent psychological damage.
