Mexican Revolution

January 1910 - In Veracruz, a respectable middle class citizen, Sanatanon Rodriguez Palafox, supplies meat to a German hacienda owner, Robert Voigt. Voigt cheats him out of seven hundred pesos. When Sanatanon protests, the German arranges with the local jefe politico, for Sanatanon to be drafted. (Johnson,18) Madero travels to Sonora, where he meets Jose Maria Maytorena. Even though he is a Reyes supporter, Maytorena agrees to start a club of Sonoran Madero supporters. Madero leaves Sonora for Chihuahua, followed by 20 uniformed Rurales. (McCreary, 23)

February 1910 - Abraham Gonzalez, chief of the Madero campaign in the state of Chihuahua, makes his first contact with Pancho Villa. (Krauze, 307) Zapata drafted into the army (his second time) for "political activity," but actually for stealing a young woman. Ignacio de la Torre, Diaz's son-in-law, arranges for his discharge, and employs Zapata as groom in his stables in Mexico City. (Womack, 62-63)

March 1910 - Colonel Ángeles completes his commission to study methods of Artillery Application at Fontainbleu. He extends his stay for another year at the School of Ordnance, and participates on maneuvers with the French army. For his contributions, he is awarded the French Legio

August 1912 - Federal forces re-take Ciudad Juarez. Orozco's forces divide up and are compelled to fight as small guerrilla bands. (Meyer) Ex-President's Diaz nephew, General Felix Diaz runs for Governor in the state of Oaxaca, and loses. (Johnson) In Morelos, local elections are held, bring into office civilians who favor peaceful land distribution. Rebel forces are quite. Hostages, and Zapata's relatives are released from captivity. Rebel chieftain find little support in the state: de la O shifts his operations into the Federal District, and Zapata shifts his to Puebla. (Womack) Zapata distrustful of Juan Almazan because of his release, places him under the command of a man he has no respect for. (Werner)

1911 - May 10. The city of Ciudad Juarez falls to Madero under the military leadership of General Orozco and Pancho Villa(*4). The federal commander was General Navarro(*5). Madero did not order the capture of this important city. He none-the-less occupied the city and set up a provisional government. General Orozco was absent from his new cabinet This absence caused strife between the two men and more importantly friction between civilian and established military leadership that was to prolong the war and horrible suffering for the next decade.
