Author choice: alice Hoffman

As I entered English this year it was with a knot in my stomach and a sense foreboding lingering in the back of my mind. I was not exactly keen to return to a subject that for me, personifies my inadequacies on paper. At a point somewhere around the second day of class we began a discussion on what defines art. I was intrigued, my attention was captivated and interests sparked. "This is a philosophical discussion" I thought.. This was the sort of medium I yearn to debate and explore! Fast forward a few more days. I find myself entering third period once more, now with what has been for me a long lost eagerness, driven purely by my yearning to further explore our areas of art, even more so a philosophy. I am greeted by a freezing blast of damp air. I take my seat, now in the area for group for, this is the singular area we've yet to explore. I am bursting with desire to know what I am, as though the classification might offer me solace for my struggles with verbalizing what I like in a piece and expressing myself in a form I feel sufficient. My choice has been clearly laid before me. I have found the one who can use words and capture the soul in the pure art and economy of their expression. Alice Hoffman is shows the qualities I value in her work and exemplifies what I feel to be art. She is who I choose for the author Project.

Even now as I ponder the guidelines I have decided will yield the power to bring my perfect selection forth from a collection of novelist that would masterfully dipict every ounce of human spirit in one way or another. Yet using my objective guidelines I must find the one who best forms a bond between the piece, it's character's heart and soul, and mine. You see for me a book that captivates through Identification is always the most tangible form of asthetic perfection I can find in literature. My author must paint in my mind so clearly a portrait of their character's identity that I become one with them and Identify their struggles upon myself. In my ideals a true artist in literature will, through precise and masterful language, allow me to lose the place where the character ends and my reality begins. I want, need, to become the story. I find that this will be the cause for my abandon of Wally Lamb as a potential candidate from my stack. While his writing was visually depictive in every sense, I did not find it emotionally such. In She's Come Undone I felt joy and despair for th
