A detailed Summary of Solitary Life
Today with online chatting, more and more people are communicating and interacting with one another around the world. People are avoiding the sad and boring sides of solitary life. But in the essay "The Rewards of Living a Solitary Life", May Sarton wrote that she feels free to express her feelings, thoughts, and not worry about anything else when she's alone. She also feels that, " loneliness is most acutely felt with other people," because of the " fear of hurting others" (P. 39). Sarton claims that loneliness is not in any way negative, but rather positively rewarding. Like her, I too believe that people can add more freedom and sincerity to their personhood in the solitary life.

Basically we all have to worry about the criticism of the society, but in reality our freedoms are limited. I once had the same experience as her, when I was young; I did not live alone. In my interaction with my family and friends, I had to endure their different opinions and behavior. My behavior and actions needed to be adapted to meet their expectation and needs. But, I wished for a solitary life, like Ms. Sarton. My desires came true after I graduated from high school and headed off to college. I rented a small inexpensive apartment and lived a really independent life, enjoying the way of life as expected. For once in my lifetime, I can feel the freedom of being able to eat, live, dress, and act according to my own personality without being pressured by others.
