After one of his friends established a basketball team, Lonnie, of course, joins it. But after he is told the name of the trainer he' s very demotivated, because Cal is known as a wino. At first he absolutely declines Cal, but after Cal talked with Lonnie about his past and after the first trainings lessons, Lonnie accepts him. But in Lonnie, Cal sees the young boy, he once used to be. So he tries to support Lonnie and to advance his skills.

The author wanted to bring up, that sport is very important for many people. Often it is used for a way out of crime, but it is a hard way to go and costs lot self-control. A contrast to that is Cal, who wasn't able to manage this and so sport destroyed his live.

I found the book very pleasant to read. Anyway I wasn't excited from the beginning, I liked the book at the end. The book holds very interesting and detailed basketball-scenes, which were one of the best things in the book.
