Kurt Cobain
In 1987 he was living under a bridge in Aberdeen, Washington eating fish and making friends with the turtles. Four years and later and five hundred and fifty million dollars richer, Kurt Cobain is the lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana. Nirvana's second album "Nevermind" bumped Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" off the number one spot overnight; they were overnight millionaires with a song Kurt didn't even like, "Smells Like Teen Spirit." One thing that really bothered Kurt was that the people coming to his concerts were the people he was trying to alienate. Kurt Cobain was in a lot of pain due to his stomach ulcers; right before Nirvana was supposed to go back into the studio, in 1993, to record their third album, "In Utero" Kurt had to go to the hospital for these pains. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were the pioneers of alternative rock and helped bring "grunge" subculture into mainstream America. Nirvana was the first "grunge" band to hit number one on the Billboard charts, six months before no one knew who Kurt Cobain was. When they brought their music into the mainstream they brought other bands that had copied them along too, such as Pearl Jam. There were many "grunge" bands popping up
Nirvana released their fist album in 1989, "Bleach." They recorded it for only $606.17. Cobain's band had fans, but they needed more if they were going to have their music heard everywhere. They went back into the studio and recorded "Nevermind." That album was extremely popular. It sold over fourteen million copies in the U.S. and Europe alone. After all the ew who they were, but none were quite as good as Nirvana. Everything that really happened to Kurt Cobain and Nirvana happened to them in the late 80's and early 90's, when everyone was still trying to convince themselves the it was a happy and gentle place. In Aberdeen Kurt had just formed a band, "Stiff Woodies" and everything was going okay for him, until he started living under the bridge. That was the beginning of the downward spiral of Kurt Cobain.
