France occupied Vietnam by 1884. After World War II Vietnam declared independence, but it wasn't until after 1954, when the French was defeated by Ho Chi Minh and his communist forces that Vietnam was free from France. Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia. In comparison to the U.S. Vietnam is about the size of New Mexico. The countries that border Vietnam are Cambodia, China and Laos. The climate of Vietnam goes from monsoons to war
