American Dream
As I was walking down the street near my house, when I notice that there was a problem ahead of me. I heard some shouting, and looked further down the street to get a better view. There I saw a group of kids picking on another kid. The kids were all white, except the one in the middle; he was Mexican. As I walk closer to them, I noticed that the kids were calling the Mexican names. Names making fun of his heritage, names mocking his superficial features, names that hurt his feeling and made him cry. While viewing the traumatic situation, I could only think of how wrong that was and how something needed to be done. Before I could utter a word, a single man walked out of his house and stopped the scuffle. Making a feeling of silence, and happiness sweep over me. Why did this happen? Not, only here, but I hear about "incidents" like that one happen all over the United States. What is wrong with the U.S.? How can they write that all men are created equally when they had slaves? Slaves are men, just like us, but they weren't free, like us. Is the dream that America is the "beautiful land of the free" false, or is it true? Are there some myths? Men our created equally, but it's obvious that we all don't agree with that thought. The Declaration of Independence was written while we had slaves. It's tells how the king used slaves, and how it was wrong for him to do so. While we had slaves of our own. It informed us that all men are equal, when slaves weren't. Still to this day, there is racism, and prejudice. There could be two people; both qualified for the same job. Each man went to the same college, got the same grades, and applied at the same time. The only difference is that one man is white, while the other man is black. There have been many cases that the white man got the job over the black man just because of his skin color. Is that Equality? The color of the skin is not the only way to judge or be prejudice.
