The followings are my brief report of a two semester working period on a project called stamping machine. We meet every weekend in a group and assign task for each individual. My primary task is working on building and installing the main frame and some of the assembly codes for the system. First month of first section semester, I did research the motors, pulley, and bell. Specification: We were confused how to get a good motor. We first order one motor, the motor has a good tort of 2kg per centimeter, and rotates at speed of 60 revolutions per second. Unfortunately, that motor broke a couple days later because of bad connection inside the motor. This time we bought 2 motors for just in case. Finally, we use all 2 motors in the system. We didn't know how to connect the motors to make it move the system, whether to use gear pulley or use belts. We found a good web-site that had all kind of robots stuff. We bought couple pulleys and timing belts there. Second month of the first section semester, I install the motors, belts, pulleys and frame. Design the dish with 340 stripes. Specification: We put the motors, belts and pulleys on the frames, this required a lot of drilling and metal cutting. The system was put toget
her, but the modification was always proceeding. Despite there was a draft design of how the system going to be, but dealing with physical work and making it running as a machine is hard. We liked a device that can keep track of the rotation position of the piston when it moving. We create a dish that has 360 stripes so that it can give 360 high and low inputs into the optical sensor when the motor rotates one rotation. The Stripes on the dish have to be all equally in width. We used Auto cad 2000 software to drew the dish, and laminated it in the plastic. The dish came out very nice in shape. Second month of second semester, designing feeder, install force sensor base. Specification: We came up with a method of how to detect objects, for example, material present detect, hand detect for security purpose and part reject when it finished stamp. We use optical cells together with laser pointer that would be modified to install in the system. The laser light will make a great change in resistance of the optical cells that will be suitable for the machine to be located in any kind of environment. A set of this detector was installed right after the part going to be coming out. The second set was installed right at the front where the operator supposes to stand. The third set was install on the feeder.
