A Good Man is Hard to Find

A detailed Summary of A Good Man is Hard to Find

Characterization of A Good Man is Hard to Find

The characterization of A Good Man is Hard to Find, in my opinion was lacking a little in some ways, but a little excessive in others. I think that the author could have gone a little more in depth in the character's thoughts, but went a little overboard with the descriptions of the character's clothing and about the surroundings through out the story.

Although I somewhat liked the descriptions that the author gave in the story, I feel that the descriptions were a little excessive and they made the story seem to drag a little. The reason that I liked the descriptions was, during the time I was reading the story; I could really picture what a character looked like and what the surroundings looked like. It seemed to be as if I had been there before, or was right there in the car with them. In fact, the only time in the story I felt a twinge of excitement was when one of the Misfit's sidekicks brought back the shirt that Bailey had been wearing. If the author had left out the part where she described his shirt the part prob

ably would not have had much effect on me (much like the rest of the story.)

In all honesty, I did not enjoy reading this story because it was too short and I felt like I did not have enough time to analyze the characters before they were killed. In my opinion, this was like the opening scene of a horror film, where the first one or two people are killed but the audience does not really care that much that they were murdered because they don't know much about the character.

The only character that I feel the reader had the slightest bit of insight into was the grandmother, but I still do not feel that it was anywhere enough for the reader to understand her character. The reader did get a little insight in to her past but most of it was a small reminder to show her age compared with the rest of the family. She was still the stereotypical grandmother always seeming to be over worried about her family and stubborn in her ways. In the story, the author was very descriptive with the grandmother's clothes, but I would rather know about the character's thoughts than to know w
