The two poems 'Charge of the Light Brigade' by Lord Alfred Tennyson and 'Dulce et Decorum Est' by Wilfred Owen, both deal with the subject of war.

The writers of these poems themselves had very different experiences with war. Alfred Tennyson had heard of the charge made by the light brigade and had written his poem with no first hand experience of the event. However, Wilfred Owen had actually fought in the Second World War, and written from his own experience. In the two poems, imagery of the soldiers is used to describe the feelings of war in the poem. Their actions and appearances are described in different ways. 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' uses words such as 'glory' and 'honour' to create a very heroic image of the soldiers. Tennyson uses phrases, which further the brave image of the soldiers:
