Adopt A Dad
Who says that men can't raise children? According to the American society, single fatherhood is almost unheard of. We, as society, are so accustomed to seeing women with children and no father figure that we begin to think that single motherhood is the status quo. But isn't this considered one-sided in today's world? There are men that raise their own kids or adopt to raise by themselves. A great example of single fatherhood is displayed in the movie Big Daddy (1999).Although rated as a comedy with lots of childish antics performed, this movie is at the top of the list as proof that men too can raise children without a mother around. The movie's father character, Sonny, is left alone to raise a child. In an effort to impress his girlfriend, he adopts a five-year-old boy. Like most father and son duos there were lots of hard times and obstacles they had to face, but somehow, they both managed to overcome it all and proved everyone wrong. No one had considered Julian in all of this. No one had taken the time to ask him how he felt about the situation. The film goes on to show us that the adoption was challenged and Julian, Sonny, friends, and a very unexpected family member, must go to trial for finalization. Once again, society has fallen flat on its face with its ludicrous and sexist views. Unfortunately there are many chauvinist individuals that give society such an unpleasant guise. When will we embrace our single parent fathers the same as our single parent mothers? Who's to blame for this unbalan
