Sir Gawain and The Green Knigh

The film The Power of Myth: The Hero?s Adventure and the tale of Sir Gawain and The Green Knight are connected in several ways. I am attempting to show identity between the film The Power of Myth: The Hero?s Adventure in which Bill Moyers is interviewing Joseph Campbell. Also I read ?The Hero?s Adventure? from Joseph Campbell?s book The Power of Myth. Joseph Campbell is a famous writer of numerous books about mythology. Joseph Campbell says that a hero is someone who is giving his life to something bigger than himself and who has found or done something beyond the normal range of achievement and experience. Joseph Campbell says that every hero must to perform his own adventure, quest, journey, or trials. Another source is the tale of Sir Gawain and The Green Knight about Sir Gawain, who was challenged by The Green Knight. The Green Knight wanted to test to Sir Gawain in order to demonstrate his honor and his name as ?the bravest of all the knights? and also purity, chivalrous to rebuff the lady?s sexual advances discourteously.

Sir Gawain had three temptations from the Lady of the Green Knight and also his fear of self-protection when he met with the Green Knight. In the tale of Sir Gawain we see him ac

Surely, Sir Gawain behaved courageously and heroically. Sir Gawain's honor is the cause for his encounter with the Green Knight; he forgets it and falls into the Green Knight?s trap. It is interesting to note that his greatest qualities appear in his downfall. Also there are some lessons, which I learned from Sir Gawain, for instance: in an adventure I can discover not just my own abilities but about myself that I didn?t know before. Since I cannot guaranty that my behavior will be right in extreme situations, it does not mean that I am a bad person.

One more person who took the Green Knight under protection to perform this idea was a very old lady dwelling in the castle. Her name was Morgan le Fay, and she possessed the magical powers. In class we discussed about the motives and a big role of the wise woman. Morgan didn?t want to have a feud with Sir Gawain but just to teach the lesson because she had wisdom. Sir Gawain not proved his honor only from this quest, but he learned the lesson for him and for other knights. When he returned home alive, he told others about Morgan?s lesson, which means being honest and purity in difficulty situations faced to death and when no body see me.
