Things Fall Apart

In "Things Fall Apart" by Achebe, he shows the true culture and traditions of the Africans before European Colonization. He portrays the real complexity of their lives in every aspect of their society from kinship, religion, marriage, and even government. Achebe emphasizes the harmony and uniqueness of the Igbo culture and contradicts the stereotypical European representations of the Africans as barbarians.

One of the main focuses of the Igbo culture as defined in the novel is their style of government. They have a very intricate yet simple way to deal with issues involving the tribe. For example in chapter two when the Mbaino tribe killed a daughter of the Umuofia tribe they dealt with the matter in a very professional manner without using any form of violence. The main thing that makes me realize that life is full of important choices is the fact that we as people are faced with so many intricate and complicated situations. I don't understand love and its affect on people and why it makes them do the weird things they do. I have feelings for him but I don't know where its going to go, and if in person it will be the same. Now that ive already made so many mistakes, its too late, theres no t

The most evident aspect of the Igbo society that makes it so complex and unique is its religion. Religion is the one area that has a huge impact on everyone's life in the book. Religion plays an important role in everything that Okonkwo does through out the book. Through out the book Achebe emphasizes the Igbo's beliefs of peaceful relations. The Igbo tribes would always consult the Oracle, or their ancestors before declaring war because they feared punishment from their gods. Religion not only emphasizes peace for the Igbo's but also emphasizes an individuals obligation to the community. For Instance, when Okonkwo breaks the Week of Peace by beating his youngest wife he not only breaks a law of the tribe, but breaks many religious rules as well.

urning back and this one will never happen. In the end it doesn't even matter we try so hard and yet we fall, and in the end it doesn't even matter, I had to fall to lose it all, and in the end it doesn't even matter. I have this feeling that when the day comes when we meet up there is no one else to end up here. The end of the road is here, Though the tribe was given an ultimatum to choose between war on one hand or the offer of a young man and a virgin as compensation for the crime, they chose the to revert to the peaceful method. Another prime example of the Igbos use of fair government is in chapter four is during the Week of Peace when Okonkwo finds his youngest wife miss
