School Violence
Since the incident at Columbine High School, 39 teenagers have had their lives taken inover 22 incidents, and hundreds of others injured between April 1999 and April 2001 (Hunter 2). In reference to violence, Richard Riley, the Secretary of Education says, “[Violence] has turned many of our classrooms into war zones.” (Toch 6). Reasons for such violence are due to the adolescent attitudes and great reduction in respect for one anothers life ( Toch 1). School Violence is a problem due to the violence in today’s media, easy availability of guns and neglect in correlation with the lack of proper For instance, kids imitate what they see, and when they watch action movies, the bad guy tends to walk away happy and being congratulated after blowing away someone (Bailey 47; Schleifer 42). Kids who tend to see more violence such as in toys, movies, or videogames are often more prone to the idea that violence is not bad (Bailey 47). If you ever visit Kay-Bee Toys or Toys R’ Us, take a walk down the toy isle.
