African and American Slave trade

When looking at the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and the Trans-Saharan slave trade one will notice great differences between the two. On one side of the slave trade there was excessive abuse towards the slaves, while on the other side there were signs of respect being showed towards the slaves. It is this brutality that will show us the variations in the two slaves trades. These variations will in turn shape the differences in behaviors between the two trades slaves.

The Trans-Atlantic slave trade was not the finest of times for the individuals that were captured and sold into the slave trade. When slaves were captured they were stolen from their families in the light of day by other African ethnic groups. From the point in time of their capture it was a time of hell for them. This was seen in the movie “Roots”, when one of the slavers was talking about packing in more slaves into crates on top of each other as if they were sardines. He believed that over stuffing would not be a problem because some were going to die anyway so why not pack more to cover those who do die.
