The Patriot

The Patriot, is novel by Steven Molstad based on the screenplay by Robert Rodat. The book takes place during the beginning and end of the American Revolution. Benjamin Martin, a patriot and a single parent has to take care and protect his seven children from the war. The Americans fought the war for the cause and to protect their land and family. The British fought this war to show that they were the country to be feared. Nationalism drove these men to fight for their countries.

Benjamin Martin is a Patriot, but he has his fill of war. A veteran of the fierce French and Indian war, he has renounced fighting forever, retiring to his South Carolina farm to raise his motherless children in peace. The war effort eventually comes to the Carolina’s and Martin does not want his eager 18-year-old son to join the war.
