A detailed Summary of Grunge is Dead


Kurt Cobain was born a happy child, but his life soon took a turn to a bit darker side. At an early age Kurt was abandoned by his parents and took solace in music. As his love for music grew, he developed his own style of music thus began the band Nirvana, and with it the birth of grunge. With the bands popularity growing came greater troubles. He will forever be remembered. Kurt Cobain gave rise to the grunge era and enlightened the world, with his death came the death of grunge.

Kurt Donald Cobain was born on the 20th of February 1967 in Aberdeen, which is located about 120 kilometers southwest of Seattle, Washington (Ronson 1). Cobain was for most of his childhood a sickly bronchitic child. He grew up in a middle class society and was hyperactive as a child. As a result he was prescribed a morphine-based drug to help him concentrate in school. The drug often kept him awake until 4 a.m. so he was given sedatives in order to get to sleep (Arcouft 1).

Kurt had a happy childhood until he was seven years old when his parents divorced. It was an ordinary divorce, but Kurt was very traumatized by it. He became shy and difficult. Following the years after the divorce, he moved back and forth between his parents. Before


Things were not going the way Kurt had intended. They were not satisfied with the direction the band was going. It was around this time that Kurt started to use heavy drugs more often, which included heroin and morphine. Already emotionally fragile, Kurt started worrying about how his music was being received and he hated how uncontrollable his future was. At this point Kurt described himself as suicidal (Cross 51).

With the death of Kurt Cobain came an end to the grunge era. During his time he helped create a new sound and a new way of thinking. Although he is gone now, for the few of those he touched during his time he will continue to live on. Peace, Love, and Empathy Kurt Cobain; "...Remember. Kurt Cobain and Krist Novaselic started Nirvana in 1986 (Dodd 38). Kurt played guitar and sang while Krist played bass-guitar. Kurt's pained, haunting voice and his talent as a guitarist saved him from a life of petty crime. After a few attempts with some different drummers, they were not satisfied until they were introduced to Dave Grohl by the vocalist for the Melvins (Thompson 81). From then on Dave became the new drummer for Nirvana.

his tenth birthday his parents did not want him anything to do with him, so Kurt had to move in with relatives and even for a short time lived under a bridge..

On April 8, 1994 Kurt was found dead in his own house, of what appeared to be a shotgun blast to his head three days earlier. The shotgun blast had destroyed his face upon all recognition, but fingerprint analysis verified that it was Cobain's body. They found a large amount of heroin in his blood. Two days later there was a memorial where Love read a part from his suicide note. The note ended with the words "I love you, I love you." Kurt had earlier said that same year that he never expected to reach the age of 30. Unfortunately, he was right.
