Jonathan Swift and Gulliver’s

Jonathan swift was born in 1667 and shortly after Swift and his mother moved to a house in England. At an early age he began writing, one of the things he was best at. In 1699 Swift wrote his epic story Gulliver’s Travels. This is the story that notified that swift was to be one of the most well known writers in the world. The stories that Gulliver’s Travels portrayed where from his own experiences. Swifts experiences with the Whigs caused him to write books that mock religious beliefs, government, or people with views differing from his own. In one of these books, Gulliver’s Travels, Swift criticizes the corruption of the English government, society, science religion, as well as the normal man.

In Gulliver's first travel, in which he visited Lilliput, Gulliver is faced with the minute people, called Lilliputians. Now while this is the basis for a fantasy story, Swift uses the events within to make harsh criticisms of England between reigns of Queen Anne and George the first. The people of Lilliput are about six inches tall, and there size signifies that their motives, acts, and humanity are in the same as the English government. (Long 276).
