Marijuana: Should It Be Legal

The word marijuana holds two very different meanings in today's society. To parents it is a drug that is affecting their teenage children. Scientists have found that marijuana impairs all abilities by conducting extensive experiments and in depth research. However, many doctors see marijuana as a substance that can relieve, not cure, many sick people from their daily pain. They believe when used in moderation and in the right circumstances marijuana is a medical miracle.

Many people look at marijuana as a drug that is very harmful to people that utilize it. Many people begin using marijuana between the ages of twelve and eighteen. It provides a form of entertainment when there is nothing else to do. People who use it for entertainment purposes receive no benefits from this drug. Marijuana contains more than 400 chemicals. In an interview on ABC news, Dr. Lester Grinspoon discussed the medicinal benefits that marijuana provides to people infected with various diseases. Dr. Grinspoon stated that, "One of the remarkable qualities of marijuana as a medicine is its versatility." Marijuana does not provide a cure for the symptoms people display, but it alleviates some of their pain for the time being. There are close to 30 symptoms and syndromes for which marijuana is functional. The drug acts as a stimulant to enhance the appetites of people infected by cancer or AIDS. It helps cancer patients with their unvarying nauseated feeling and persistent vomiting. Marijuana helps minimize the weight reduction effect visible
