A detailed Summary of Macbeth: The Increase of Evil Power

As one of the greatest writers, though now deceased, Shakespeare's talent stays a favorite. His best tragic piece, Macbeth, captures the absence of fidelity. Macbeth, a turbid man, experiences two hallucinations as a result of his wicked ambition. The dagger in Act I, scene i, leads Macbeth to fortitude, as Banquo's ghost in Act iii, scene iv, makes his perception quiver.

While planning to kill Duncan, King of Scotland, Macbeth became very nervous. Before his sinful act, a dagger appeared floating in the air while he was waiting for the sound of the death bell. "To feeling as to sight, or art though but/ A dagger of the mind, a false creation." (II, i, 38-39) Soon after the dagger's appearance the bell rings, and Macbeth brutally kills Duncan. Macbeth's second hallucination appears in Act III, scene iv, at a banquet after he kills his best friend. Macbeth became King of Scotland after Duncan's death because he was highest of Thanes. One person in Macbeth's way is his best friend, Banquo. Banquo was with Macbeth when his prophecies were given, and might have an idea that Macbeth is the true murderer of Duncan. Macbeth, now power crazed, unconsciously orders Banquo to be killed. Both hallucinations are caused by the prophecies, giving Macbeth the greedy heart to kill.

Macbeth, like most of Shakespeare's plays, tells a story that has a moral lesson attached to it. What is learned is essential to how the reader views the play.

In Act I, Macbeth is presented with three prophecies. "All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! / All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! / All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!"
