Three areas that differ between Shakespeare's "Othello" and Thomas Harris' "The Silence of the Lambs"When examining the play "Othello" by Shakespeare and the novel The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, we are looking at some of the most psychotic characters in all of literature. These characters, while similar, do carry different traits, and have different outcomes. It is these differences in characters that we will examine in the following paper. To begin with, we must examine and label each character in the works for accurate comparrison. In "Othello", the antagonist is clearly Iago, which would make our protagonist Othello himself. In The Silence of the Lambs, it is not so clear. We see most of the story through the eyes of FBI agent Clarice Starling, who is our protagonist. It is the antagonist that leads to some confusuion. We see that Hannibal Lecter is clearly a bad man, but he doesn't exactly work against Clarice, he is more of a middle-man, both helping our p
The final difference I will examine is the final outcome of the protagonist. The protagonist in each story is a symbol of good, but their endings are quite different. In rotagonist, and being a violent killer. Jame Gumb (Buffalo Bill), however, is exactly what Clarice is not. Jame Gumb is what Clarice is working against through the whole story, making him our clear antagonist.
