Depression

When a person thinks about depression it is mostly always in a negative way. Depression is actually a state that most people go through in order to become better people; it is when this state is not taken care of properly that one's life doesn't go accordingly. In The Wisdom of Depression Dr. Jonathan Zuess describes his theories, encounters with patients, and ways to cope with the disorder as well as reasons why it happens. If the process is respected "it can teach us much about ourselves. It's not just a chemical imbalance in the brain." (Zuess, 1998, 4) Once a person is depressed they can learn to use this disorder to help better themselves; "depression is a state of transformation." (Zuess, 1998)

The body and mind are connected although sometimes it seems like they are independent of each other. "The human body has the ability to heal itself"(Zuess, 1998, 6) over the years evolution has made its own mechanisms to protect itself from all problems. The changes that we experience can be distressing at times. First your mind becomes "preoccupied" with the problem, trying to find a solution. Then ones appetite decreases and sleep levels are not that high anymore. Finally after going through all these painful processes

When depression is avoided it is termed "avoided depression" in where people have some distress in their lives and push it into their subconscious and ignore it. Consequently when it is pushed back to the subconscious many people fall into addictions. Overwork, food, alcohol, drugs, and gambling are easy escape routes for many people. "Once the flow of energy from the subconscious body-mind has been allowed to initiate the depressed response, the person remains in a n unstable, disoriented, and vulnerable state. "(Zuess, 1998) In unresolved depression problems that occurred earlier were never fully resolved and could disrupt a normal life.

Enhancing the patients healing response with the holistic approach can help. By giving the patient sufficient vitamins and natural supplements the side effects of conventional medicines can be forgotten about. There are natural substitutions to the conventional medicine and whatever medicine is given out is the doctor's choice. If the doctor hasn't been exposed to any natural medicines than he probably won't use it. The natural medicines perform the same task but they produce less money for manufacturing companies.

When a person reaches a certain degree of severity the term is major depressive disorder. Many people that are majorly depressed are depressed during most of the day. They have a loss of interest, their appetite changes, insomnia, loss of energy, feelings of worthlessness, poor concentration, and recurring thoughts of suicide. About 15 % of people experience it at some time in their lives.

Many things that you do in every day life situations determine how you react. In depression every move you make is very important. The things you eat, do, or even experience can cause depression
