Albert Camus was born in Mondovi Algeria in 1913. His family was not educated and his father was killed in W.W.I. Albert Camus won a scholarship in 1924 and studied at the Lycee in Algiers. Albert Camus was an athlete but suffered from T.B. the continued to plague him for the rest of his life. Albert Camus began writing in 1936 after traveling to Europe to regain his health. Albert Camus won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 44. Albert Camus wrote The Stranger in 1942 but published it under the name L' Etranger. Albert Camus died on January fourth 1960 as a result of a car accident. Albert Camus was interested in post WWII philosophy of existentialism. In the book the Stranger Albert Camus style of writing, choice of setting and Character development shows existential themes.

The author wrote the books setting of the country that he was born in to get his desired effect. The book takes place in Algeria the place of origin of the author he did this because he knows how that country would react to the situations that the book encounters. The funeral was what really condemned him in the end though. The reason why he was condemned to death is because he did not show emotion at his mother's funeral.
