Gulliver's Travel, by Jonathan Swift, is a novel filled with adventures in a range of extreme societies. Lemuel Gulliver is the narrator and the central character of this novel. He grows up in Nottinghamshire. He is the third of five sons in a middle-class family. He then became a surgeon aboard a ship called The Swallow for three years. Afterwards, he settles in London, working as a doctor, and marries a woman named Mary Burton. His business began to fail when his patron died, so he decided to go to sea again and travels for six years. Although he had planned to return home, he decided to accept one last job on a ship called The Antelope.
Gulliver goes to four different places, all filled with different people, different ways of thinking and different life styles. The Lilliputians, who are only six inches humans, think that they are important and powerful people in the world but in fact they are merely little people whom Gulliver can destroy effortlessly. The theme of novel is humanity. All the different societies whom Gulliver has encountered have different life styles and they think completely different. He goes through a range of extreme societies: one is too small, one is too large, the other one is too theoretical and the other is purely simple. When he meets the Lilliputians, the Brobdingnagians and the Laputans, he has the desire to go back to England, a place with people of his own size and people who thinks like him. He wants to go back to a place which he thinks is normal but surprisingly he wants to stay with are the Houyhnhnms, simple people. When he goes back to England, he even thinks like the Houyhnhnms and he acts like them. He even thinks that his friends and families act like the Yahoos.
