For two days Heathcliff travels to Liverpool. He comes to a Parlor in hopes of finding some food and a warm place to stay. When he enters, blank stares from all across the room are on him. He walks up to the bar to try and persuade the bartender into giving him a room for the night. But before he reaches the bar a woman grabs him by the arm. He turned around and saw a woman dressed very provocatively and he assumed that she 'worked' there. Another thing he noticed about her is that she looked a lot like he does. "George", she calls him. "No ma'am, my name is Heathcliff", was his reply. "How old are you?" she continues to ask him. "Well to be totally honest I'm not quite sure, I suppose I'm 22 or 23." Heathcliff said hesitantly.
The woman, with a look of shock said the words he never expected to hear, "I'm your mother, and your name is George Beaumont." They sat down at the table together
and began to reflect on the past. She went on to say that they had become so poor that she had sold herself and then sold Heathcliff to a very respectable man (Mr. Earnshaw).
Fearing the resentment from Matthew and Beth, he decided that it was time to resume his life at Wuthering Heights, hoping that now with all his fortune Catherine would take him back. This time, instead of trying sneak on a ship, he rode first class. He decided that if he was going to ride in first class he had to look the part. He bought some new clothes, nothing to extravagant. As he got closer to home he had heard of Catherine and Edgar's marriage. He was crushed and sank back into a depressed state of mind, but he still held a little hope for them in the back of his mind.
Following the week, his brother Matthew was to visit. The arrival of Matthew wasn't as pleasant as Heathcliff had hoped for. He was very rude and snooty. He h
