Culture is both ideal and real, adaptive and symbolic. These fundamentals are shared by the automobile. Operating an automobile is an overlooked aspect of our culture, many people neglect to realize that driving a car is very much a part of our culture. The researcher would need to understand that the ideal rate of speed is often taken for granted. The ideal rate of speed may be 55mph, when really the individuals are traveling at 60mph. Because our society has adopted an idea that 5mph over the speed limit is acceptable.
