Aspect of a Short Story

The short story "The Bowl" by F. Scott Fitzgerald tells us about one of his friends from college, Dolly Harlan, who was also his roommate. Dolly was a football player at Princeton University. At the beginning, he says he hates football and wants to quit the team, then he does quit and meet a nice woman which he loves and he doesn't really talk about football anymore but by the end of the story he chooses to join the football team again because he realize how much he loves the game.

At the beginning of the story, Dolly Harlan tells how he wants to quit the team, how lucky he was when he caught the punt back at the game. He even considered leaving school: "Once committed, he saw that he had made a mistake; he even considered leaving college." But what he hadn't realized was that he was a great player and that he needed to be notified by other people to realize that. It was set in his mind that he was going to quit the team. After Dolly met Miss Thorne, his mind was focused on her and he still wanted to quit football, but Miss Thorne had lost her brother when he was playing football. Therefore, Dolly did not want to hurt her because he loved her. She had a really big influence on him: " 'He's go

He was explaining how happy he was not to be playing football and everything but at the end, Jeff wrote: "It didn't sound like Dolly at all." This proves that he didn't really want to quit football, his friend knew better than that. The letter was not written with true meanings. But his junior year, the team was not doing so well and he was watching the game from the stands. And then from the stands, he moved down to the sideline with the team. When he came back from the sideline after that game, he looked like he cried, showing how much he wanted to go back to football. That same night, Jeff went to meet Dolly and Vienna and their room, Vienna said: "Sit down, Jeff, I want you to witness the collapse of a man into a schoolboy." I sat reluctantly. "Dolly's changed his mind," she said. "He prefers football tom." "That's not it," said Dolly. This showed how much he wanted to go back to help his team who wasn't doing so great, even if his ankle it could be dangerous. For the last two games, he was going to be playing. Miss Thorne was really upset about th
