Prayer in School
To Pray or Not to Pray in Our Public Schools Voluntary prayer in public schools has been a controversial issue since the court ruling in 1963 that changed everything. In 1963, Engle vs. Vitale, this court ruling decided that prayer conducted by teachers, or a moment of silence, would interfere with the Establishment Clause. This meant there would be no more prayer in school. There have been over half a dozen court decisions against school prayer over the past fifty years (School Prayer: A Community at War: Important School Prayer Rulings, pg. 1). I believe that voluntary school prayer, or a moment of silence should be allowed. It is an injustice to deny voluntary prayer to willing students in government run public high schools. Our government still today includes religion in many of its daily ceremonies. In court, when you speak before a judge, you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, on the Holy Bible. "In God We Trust," is written on all currency circulating in the United States. In the Beginning of all the congress meetings, the congress prays to God. The ten commandments from the Bible are proudly featured at our Supreme Court building for everyone to see (School Prayer: A Community At War:

Voluntary school prayer is needed in our public school system. With the presence of school prayer, we can clearly see how low school violence was. It would be a revelation to he a school official say their main problem in school was gum chewing. When you turn on the news, another deadly act of violence at school has been committed. The majority of the public wish to see voluntary prayer returned back to the students who attend government run school. As mentioned before, the First Amendment says nothing to keep God out of the classroom is a student wishes to pray. I hope that you understand now why our children should be allowed to carry their Bibles proud, pray before class if they are willing. No one should ever be forced upon any religion against their will. No student should ever be denied a part of them so sacred as their religious beliefs, regar
