Othello
The play Othello, written by Shakespeare has a contrasting character plot of good and evil. Iago is a male officer that is under the rule of Othello, the Moor. Iago represents evil in all of its glory. He is a demented man with only the selfish goal of furthering himself and ruining others that get in between him and his goals. Every evil must have a countering good and that good in Othello is Desdemona. She never once looses love for her husband, not even during her death from his hands. Iago is an officer below Othello. Othello is the leading character that has married the Senator's daughter Desdemona without the permission of her father. The play begins with Iago telling his friend Roderigo about Othello's decision to make Cassio, a noble pretty boy officer who was born and bred for the aristocratic world his lieutenant. Iago is upset and ready to exact his revenge for this slight. Not only does Iago feel wronged, he also does not believe in love of any sort. He is an outsider looking into a world that is controlled by passions and love. An example of Iago's inability to believe in love would be his referral of Othello and Desdemona's love as an animal act. He lowers their love to sex as a human function that ste
Desdemona even in death defends her one true love. She being so pure and of goodness actually goes beyond normal human abilities to come alive to save her husband. "That I love the Moor to live with him, Desdemona's ultimate sign of goodness and total belief in love would be her last line of the play. She has been smothered by Othello and is lying on the bed. Emilia, Iago's wife, enters the bedchamber and notices Desdemona dead. Othello speaks to Emilia and says that he has killed his wife. The two are discussing the murder of another when Desdemona comes alive and states: Is tupping you white ewe. Arise, arise!" These referrals to animals lower both Othello and Desdemona to nature's animals following their instinct rather than their humane love for one another.
