Jurassic Park is an amazing film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Michael Crichton, which revolutionized special effects in movies. The story concerns a tropical island, which is the home to living Dinosaurs, brought back by way of DNA. The multi- millionaire, John Hammond, who owns the island, invites paleontologist Dr. Grant, paleobotanist Dr. Sattler, mathematician Ian Malcolm, and Hammonds two grandchildren, Tim and Lex to the island to experience his future theme park. When Jurassic Park first came out, many people said that it was masterpiece of film making. However, the only way to tell if Jurassic Park is in fact a great movie is by evaluating the standards of which great movies must live up to. In this essay, the following standards will be evaluated for Jurassic Park: the plot, visual effects, acting, and the message the movie sends. The message that Jurassic Park sends is made very clear in the beginning of the movie through the character of Ian Malcolm.
