Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is an amazing film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Michael Crichton, which revolutionized special effects in movies. The story concerns a tropical island, which is the home to living Dinosaurs, brought back by way of DNA. The multi- millionaire, John Hammond, who owns the island, invites paleontologist Dr. Grant, paleobotanist Dr. Sattler, mathematician Ian Malcolm, and Hammonds two grandchildren, Tim and Lex to the island to experience his future theme park. When Jurassic Park first came out, many people said that it was masterpiece of film making. However, the only way to tell if Jurassic Park is in fact a great movie is by evaluating the standards of which great movies must live up to. In this essay, the following standards will be evaluated for Jurassic Park: the plot, visual effects, acting, and the message the movie sends. The message that Jurassic Park sends is made very clear in the beginning of the movie through the character of Ian Malcolm. Through his eyes, one may see past the awe of Jurassic Park and realize it's most fundamental flaws. Another important factor that contributed to the movie was the actors. For the most part, the actors were convincing in their roles. Sam Neill and Laura Dern play the more convincing of the characters. Neill plays the part of Dr. Grant and Dern plays the part of Dr. Sattler. Throughout the movie they are able to remain the overwhelmed dinosaur enthusiasts. Jeff Goldblum, who plays Ian Malcolm is slightly less convincing. Right off the bat he against the science being demonstrated in Jurassic Park. His character would have been more believeable if he would have shown more fasination with the scientific break through that was Jurassic Park. The plot of Jurassic Park doesn't really follow a particular pattern, this helps to keep the movie exciting and mysterious. The movie starts off slow by showing Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler at their dig site. Then they are offered a chance to join multimillionaire John Hammond to his island. The three are then accompanied by Ian Malcolm, and a lawyer sent to investigate this mysterious island. The suspense and anticipation build in the viewer when Mr. Hammond and his quests arrive on the island. Movie viewers are presented with a situation almost unreal, they are shown an island full of living breathing dinosaurs. On this island Hammond has set up a genetically engineering facility which permits him and his scientist to create dinosaurs from blood extracted from prehistoric mosquitos, that have been preserved
