"Reaching out to Americas futu
There comes a time in every generation our nation is faced with a horrific tragedy. Yet, even in our darkest hours we are one, from Pearl Harbor to the assignation of JFK. On September 11, we were faced with the Attack on America. Planes were hijacked and many lives were lost, but with that we gained strength and determination. In my speech today I will be expressing my feelings on the subject and how we can stop it from happening again. How will the future of America be affected by this act of terrorism? We all watched the news on that terrible Tuesday and saw our nation under attack. In my opinion I felt it showed we were vulnerable. In the underworld of international terror, things are not always what they seem. Groups with diverse, even opposing goals often help each other when they share a common enemy. And while a terrorist act may be over in a matter of minutes, the planning and the coordination of such an event may take years. Some nations help terrorists in varying degrees: by providing sanctuar
y for suspects wanted elsewhere, supplying weapons, money, and intelligence, in effect using these organizations as "sub-contractors." It has been proven there are terrorist camps in Afghanistan run by Osama bin Laden. Participants were taught about blowing up a nation's infrastructure, rocket-launching, urban warfare, assassination, and sabotage. How will we stop it from happening again? I believe we should step up our security so no more lives are lost and everyone can feel safe once again. Statistics show that over the last seven years terrorism has risen drastically and in those seven years the death toll has almost reached the ten thousand mark, starting with the first attack on the WTC buildings in '93 and then ranging from the bombing of the USS Cole to the most recent attack on September 11. And those are just the bigger attacks during that time there were also thousands of other smaller attacks If we don't do anything to stop terrorism will we be able to trust our neighbor or will we be forever
