A Summary of « the Chronology of Ancient Egypt »

The Mesopotamia and the Ancient Egypt were two provinces where archeology and history were very important. Scientists tried to discover and learn more about these lost civilizations but even the radiocarbon techniques cant improve their research.

According to K. A. Kitchen, today the Egyptian civilization is well known by its series of Pharaohs and Kings that reigned the whole Kingdom during more than thirty dynasties. These dynasties started approximately a thousand years before the reign of Manetho. In the ninetieth century, scientists tried to divide these dynasties in seven periods. Like K. A. Kitchen said, there are resources in archeology that allow a best comprehension of the second millennium BC.

Because of the Ancient Egyptian translation to Greek, there are may data that are uncertain. It's impossible to have the perfect translation because more than 20% of the original text is lost during this translation (K.A. Kitchen)

Archeologists found five lists of kings. They found a list of the antecedent kings that reigned the great temple of Amun before Tuthmosis III, at Karnak. They only found the name of kings without dates. Two other lists of kings date from the time of R


Some architects of the Middle Kingdom were using the kings' hieroglyphs of the Old Kingdom to decorate their pyramids or pylons. The king of the intermediate Kingdom did the same thing up to the New Kingdom.

The first Egyptian calendar was having 365 days per years. The fact is that a real year is around a quarter day longer than that. For example, after 130 years, New Year Day was in summer. The Sothis heliacal rising is the name of a known phenomenon. This last one happens in July when the DogStar becomes visible just before the rising sun. In some Egyptian documents in 1460-year period mention the heliacal rising at the New Year Day. That represent how much the Egyptian calendar moved through years.
