Gender Role Development
The issue of whether intelligence is primarily based on genetics or the environment has been extensively researched. Many scientists, researchers, and doctors believe that intelligence derives from genes. On the other hand, there are many scientists, researchers, and doctors who believe that intelligence derives from an individual environment. Then, there are those who believe it is a combination of the two, genetics and environment. Throughout the past several years there have been studies shown to prove that genetics is the answer for our intelligence. The researchers that believe it are genes that are responsible for our intelligence maybe correct. The researchers that believe it is strictly environment may also be right. Researchers who believe it are both genetics and environment I mostly think is the correct answer for our intelligence. It is difficult to test for either genetics or environment because as of now they can only be measured minimally or not at all by the test that we have today. Scientists have started testing for genetics, environment, and other variables by selecting a different degree of blood relationship. In order for researchers to test the genetics part of one's intelligence, their test
About four years ago studies were done by Dr. Kaufman(Nov. 1998), he has found that both genetics and environment are responsible for ones intelligence. Opposite those who believe intelligence strictly derives from genes, are those who believe intelligence is based on environment. The third group of researchers believe that genetics and environment both play a significant role in one's intelligence. These are the people that say you may have been born with intelligent genes, but the environment is there in order to stimulate and aid the genes. Researchers who believe in this theory have reasons proving both sides of the pendulum. Some of the researchers in this group say that there are no correlations between the effects of the genes and the environment. In his studies, he has tested identical and fraternal twins, siblings and half-siblings, and biological and adoptive parents living with children. In his studies proving genetics responsible, he came up with three conclusions. The first one is that identical twins IQ's are more similar than those of fraternal twins(Kaufman, 1998). Like the other, there have been several tests to prove that intelligence is based on the environment. "Environment regulates the actions of genes, and genes, via changes in the nervous system, influence the sensitivity of an organism to changes in the environment."(Wahlsten and Gottlieb) There are many different variables when tying to find the answer. subjects include identical twins, fraternal twins, and ordinary people.
