COMPARISON ON ATHENS & SPARTA./.......

In Ancient Greece most city-states were the same as the largest one, Athens. Although there was one city-state that was like no other, Sparta. Spartan people were the toughest ever. There were no walls built around Sparta, to make them fight harder; there were no lights in the city, to make the soldiers skilled at night fighting. In the city of Athens there were large walls to keep out intruders and everyone could see at night!

Firstly the two cities completely different life styles will be compared. In Athens the housing was a two-storey mud brick house for most of the wealthy citizens and for the poorer citizens the houses were a simple box like dwelling with few windows and a door that led out into the street. Most houses were hidden behind mud walls that were mostly to keep out the heat and for privacy. The Spartans didn't know about privacy. What, with living in dormitory type areas most of their life, living under constant supervision and being made to go naked in winter! The Spartans spent most, if not all, of their time training or fighting. Whereas the Athenians spent their time in the agora making decisions for the city, talking or doing art. Whichever way it is looked at Athens and Sparta were completely different city-states. Whether it is through their completely opposite life styles, or their differing variety of food, whether it was the way they used their farming methods or just the disagreement with the way they ran their city-states, Athens and Sparta were hugely different.
