Speilberg

Probably the most commercially influential director of all time, with a handful of his films listed among the top 10 biggest moneymakers of all time, Steven Spielberg

is the most successful, brilliant and important filmmaker in history. But no other director-producer has been responsible for so many top-grossing hits of his time. It is hard to imagine a person who has not heard of Steven Spielberg. He is one of the most renown. "Spielberg's films have captivated and helped develop the imaginations of contemporary society and remain amongst the most successful films ever made."(www.multimania.com/Spielberg/hollywoodonlinebio)

The film maker was born in Cincinnati on December 18th, 1946. Shortly thereafter, the Spielberg family moved out west to Scottsdale Arizona. Steven was the child of an electrical engineer father, Arnold, and a concert pianist mother, Leah. When he was twelve, Steven discovered a powerful new weapon that he would use the rest of his life, the Camera. It was a gift from his mom to his dad. An 8-mm Kodak camera for camping trips and various other family activities.

The young Spielberg grew up in front of the television set, when he wasn't in the back yard fooling around with a home-movie camera. Spielberg h

massive hit that earned him a second Oscar nomination, and inspired a pair of sequels (which Spielberg also directed), (1984) and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989).

Then came 1993. First, Spielberg presented the world with Jurassic. "Jurassic Park, an eye-popping dinosaur movie that set audiences afire with its unprecedented special effects-and scenes of characters in jeopardy." It quickly became the biggest moneymaking movie of all time.Jurassic Park grossed $100 million in the first 9 days of release (passing up E.T.'s box office record). Overall Jurassic park grossed more than $900 million. It quickly became the biggest moneymaking movie of all time. Later that same year came Schindlers List. Schindlers List granted Spielberg his first Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture. Throughout the years, Spielberg has been recognized not only by the Academy Awards, but various other nominations including Golden Globe and Directors Guild awards. "Spielberg is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute and the prestigious Irving G. Thasberg Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences." Personally, Spielberg credits much of his success and happiness to his wife and children. He met actress Cate Capshaw at auditions for "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." The couple married seven years later. The couple has a total of 7 children. By 1997, Spielberg's annual income had reached $283 million. He was the highest paid entertainment figure of that year.
