Shot Put, Range of Movement
Sports that use pushing actions require the athlete to apply force continuously throughout the desired range of movement. If an athlete wants to apply maximum force to a, the athlete simultaneously uses the largest number of body segments that can be applied to the task such as the legs, back, shoulders and arms. The shot put is an exercise that allows the athlete to apply maximum force when using the pushing action. In the exercise, shot put is an exercise that you throw a ten-pound iron ball as far as possible. The athlete must cuff the iron ball between his/her chin and their chest. Next the athlete pushes backwards while twisting his upper body around. Then once the shot putter get straight he/she pushes the ball outwards as hard as possible while the momentum keeps turning them. Last the thrower must learn how to flow with the momentum so that he doesn't fall down or step out of bounds. Laws controlling stability also play an important role in the shot put because the athlete needs to have a good stance in order to perform the exercise properly. The characteristics for the exercise are simple, yet important. First you should make sure to wear the proper clothing, such as loose comfortable shorts that al
low for easy mobility, a T-shirt or tank top and special made shot put shoes to support your feet. These shoes have a fat bottom with no tread on them for greater traction. The object required for this exercise is a 10-pound iron ball. With the object for the shot put exercise obtainable, the athlete needs to know how to perform this skill properly. The first phase of the skill should be do preparatory movements, like making sure you stretch your legs, back, shoulders and arms properly all while mentally setting yourself up for what you're about to do. After the first phase is accomplished, the athlete will then go into what is called the wind up phase. Once the athlete is in the wind up phase he rotates his upper extremities to produce momentum while staying low and then exploding with the legs. Sense this is a skill what requires a wind up motion, there must be a force-producing movement that is necessary. The force-producing actions occur almost simultaneously with the athlete's legs, back, arms and shoulder muscles pushing outwards at the same time. The follow through for this exercise requires that the athlete push the ball outward with maximum force throwing it allowing the bar to fall to the ground. When performing the shot put the athlete must follow certain key elements. He or she must make sure to have an extended base, a front-ward lean with the back having a lumbar extension. Then he/she mu
