Migration

Migration, like all elements in a science, follows a specific model, which can be used to study the process. There are various factors which lead to a person making the decision to migrate, weather internally within a country, or even moving to a new country. Even though these two situations may seem very distant, they are still based on the same model. However, often times the decision for many to immigrate to a new country has more severe factors causing the migration. Two of the most important elements in migration are push and pull factors. Push factors cause someone to move away, i.e. low wages, no work, poverty, or bad weather. Pull factors attract people to a new area. These could be jobs, universities, weather, girlfriends, etc. Along with these factors, there is a decision making process which has been studied and documented. According to these data, the decision process is as follows: 1) The perceived difference between one’s home and destination. 2) The effectiveness of the information flow, or what the immigrants already living there are saying to the others in the mother state. 3) The distance of the move.
