Frankenstein

In Frankenstein by Marry Shelly it is noticeable that Victor Frankenstein and the Monster have strong and weak points that give readers the impression that it is possible they are the same person, though they are not. A strong point that Victor and the Monster have is the ability to learn from others, this played a large part in these two characters lives.

Victor Frankenstein's ability to learn from others allowed for the creation of his monster. It is learned in chapter 3 that Mr. Waldman had become an influence on Victor, and is the one who pushes him towards his goal of creating life from dead tissue. "I am happy to have gained a disciple: and if your application equals your ability, I have no doubt of your success." (1) Mr. Waldman had also taught Victor how to use his equipment, so Victor would be able to conduct his research. The Monster was then created but was not able to use his brain. He then had to learn how to speak, write, and survive since Victor had left him to die. The Monster stumbles across a family living in a cottage in Germany. Unlike Victors ability to learn from other's the Monster had to work much harder. " My days were spent in close attention, that I might more speedily master the language; and I may

Victor did not have any need for revenge until the Monster had murder every one who was close to Victor's heart. The Monster did not stop killing off Victor's family until Victor had felt the pain of not having anyone to be loved by. The Monster's revenge began with the murder of Victor's brother William. " Frankenstein! You belong then to my enemy -to him towards whom I have sworn eternal revenge; you shall be my first victim."(1) Once William had been killed the Monster framed Justine so she would look like the culprit who had murdered William, and would be killed for her crime. After the Monster had proven to Victor that he was not joking around and he would get his revenge he asked Victor to make him a female companion. When Victor had stopped making the female the Monster swore that he would be with Victor on his wedding night. " It is well. I go; but remember, I shall be with you on your wedding-night."(2) Before Victors wedding is to take place the Monster makes it his duty and murders Victor's good friend Henry Clerval. After Victor's wedding the Monster made sure to keep his word by murdering Victor's wife Elizabeth. When Victor finds the body of his dead bride he rushes home to Geneva where his father would die a few days after his return. This final death leaves Victor with the pain the Monster was intending to
