Black Cat

SUBJECT: Paper 1 Analysis of a Short Story

What can the color black symbolize? Does it symbolize the death, the devil or alcohol?

I think the black cat symbolizes all of these things. The black cat symbolizes the death because the second cat's white part was changing by the time, and there appeared the gallows.

I think he has two characters; one of these is a good man and the other one is a monster. His monster part forces him to do bad thigs and when he does bad things, his good part wants to punish himself and then he does bad things again, and this is going on like that. I think he does bad things because he can not stand the woman and the cats like him. He thinks that he is not deserving this love. He likes the cats because after he killed the first one, he worried. Originally he does not want to damage the cats, he wants only to damage himself, he does not think that he damage them, he is doing these by thinking he damages himself by loosing the things he has.

The writer wrote this story cecause he wants to tell everybody about his feelings and the reasons that he did all of these bad things. He says that now he can not believe the things he had done. He wants people to believe that he is not a bad man originally. He says: 'In their consequences, these events have terrified, have tortured, have destroyed me'. He sees the things that he remembers or the things that only he imagines. Maybe he is trying to find some reasons that made him to do these bad things and maybe all of these are some imaginations that he saw when he was alcoholic.

He afraids of the black cat, but this is not because the black cat can damage him phisically, this is because that the cat symbolizes

od woman because she behaves well to her husband altough he does not behave as her. This makes the man crazy. I think the man does not love his wife, because after he kills his wife he does not feel guilty but after killing the black cat he felt guilty.

I think this story is written in a very exaggerated style. The writer can not remember everything with details that happened when he was alcoholic. I think this story is too absurd. Everything is coincidence: The second cat is blind and it's white part changes and there appears the gallows. After the fire, there remains only one wall and the wall has a picture of the died cat because somebody threw the dead cat to wake up the writer.
