His monster part forces him to do bad thigs and when he does bad things, his good part wants to punish himself and then he does bad things again, and this is going on like that. Originally he does not want to damage the cats, he wants only to damage himself, he does not think that he damage them, he is doing these by thinking he damages himself by loosing the things he has.
