Problems About Exam Schedule
As all of us know, METU gives more opportunities to students than the other universities in Turkey, so we can say METU is better than the others. However, being better does not mean everything is good there. We know that if there is people somewhere, there always exist problems and you cannot easily create a system, which is perfect and makes everyone happy. At this point we will emphasize the problems about exam schedule and try to give solutions and suggestions for these problems. How students may be affected psychologically by the narrowly arranged exam schedule will be mentioned in this paragraph. In our opinion, exam schedule is not logically arranged. In current arrangement, students can concentrate on neither their exams nor their courses. The dates of exams are close to each other, so that; students cannot have the chance to study for their exams enough. And this lack of time for studying causes stress on students. Finally, if what we have said is ignored by the METU administration, the future of the students will have been stolen. ay cause disruptions in emotional, spiritual, physical and social health. To illustrate, migraine - a headache sickness- is caused by stress. Since the main problem of the students that is caused by academic life, is stress, they commonly have health problems caused by it. For example, an instructor makes 6 midterms in one semester only one course. This means that the students taking that course have one midterm in every 15 days. Since they have to keep studying on this course, they cannot give enough attention for their other courses. Now I wan to ask you a question. What if that instructor would give all the courses in a semester? We are so lucky that these kinds of instructors are not the majority. But indeed, even if only one course has 6 midterms, this is enough for a student to be over-stress. Mr. Cem Ali Gizir, who is psychological advisor in Psychological Counseling and Guidance Unit, has supported our ideas in the interview that we made. He has mentioned that the arrangement of exams cause lack of concentration on students and failure in exams resulted from lack of concentration makes students feel guilty that leads them to psychological problems. Above it has been already mentioned that the physical effects of wrong designed exam schedule and its handicaps come out from. In addition to this, I want to talk to you about the effects of exam schedule on our exam grades. As all you know, exam
