Racism in America
Racism is defined in Merian-Webster as "the belief that some races by nature are superior to others." Discrimination is based upon this belief. Corneal West quoted W.E.B DuBois's prescient pronouncement in his book Race Matters, as writing "The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line." Racism is the dividing factor of cultural unity. It is a disease that has plagued the deliverance of the integration of African culture with American culture. Racism is the key conjecture of the plight of unity. We are now in the twenty-first century and the same racial speculations effect us as "American citizens" as it did Black people in DuBois's era. In today's society your "privileged status" doesn't protect you from racism. They will let you know that you're still a "nigga." We've seen the protection that "privileged status" offers through the examples of: O.J. Simpson, Sean Combs, Tupac Shakur, Bill Cosby, etc. The hands of racism only let you get so far before they put you back in your place. The only reason why some black people achieve this "privileged status" comes down simply to their economic status. They have money. American culture only respects money; That is why the majority of black athletics and
when we are products of poor health care, education, concepts of religion, and unemployment. These elements make up our "black realities."When a group of people are faced with these friend Marco and I were coming off of the elevator to meet them. Security had arrived around the same time. They were in the process of subduing our female friends. Marco told the officers that they were our guest. The officer's response was, "Shut the f@#$ up, or we are going downtown too." I talked to the cons eire and told him the situation. He acted as if he didn't even know who I was, even though he was the same guy who checked us in earlier that night. By this time they had put the girls in handcuffs and were about to take them to jail for loitering. I told the cons eire again that we were guest and to check his records. I guess he "remembered" and told the officers that, "we were guest, but he didn't know the women." We told the officers that they were our guest. The officers finally listened to the cons eire, who was white, said that we were guest. The whole ordeal was extremely disturbing, because we all knew that the only reason we were treated in this manner was because we were young black teenagers. Both Lerone Bennett Jr. and Eugene Rivers wrote about nihilism and projected similar conclusions. In Rev. Rivers essay "On the Responsibility of Intellectuals in the Age of Crack", restrictions it is hard for them to identify with a certain group or culture. The only thing that African Americans can focus on is escaping these conditions. As Africans who have been Americanized, the conflict or differences between the two cultures will not really allow a median between the two cultures, so one suffers more than the other. people have faced discrimination, oppression, and character assassination. These elements have left us in a self-conflict caused by nihilism. Nihilism leads to a life of meaninglessness, hopelessness, and loveliness. These are the deciding factors that makes black people act without valuing their worth, and having self-respect as well as respect for others. When White America, "who don't understand "black realities," see us acting in this manner, they make assumptions about our character which are not based upon the conditions and pressures we face This failure by liberals leaves the existential and psychological burdens of black people in the dark.
