The Effects of Drugs

A detailed Summary of The Effects of Drugs

Drugs are everywhere. Nearly everybody knows somebody who has used or uses drugs, whether the user is a friend or a celebrity. Since drugs are everywhere, so are the effects of drugs. While drugs affect everyone around them, some of the effects that drugs have on a user include becoming antisocial, losing sight of goals, being content with less, transforming into a different person, and gambling with health.

Withdrawing from loved ones, such as friends and family, a drug user usually becomes antisocial. After using drugs over time, they tend to avoid most or all public situations. If a teen is experimenting or using drugs while in school, he or she may never begin and sometimes quit extracurricular activities such as clubs and sports. This type of person becomes so involved in their drugs that they eventually just stay to their self. A user's withdrawal from normal social functions may also cause problems within various relationships. While an addict may not mind the distance widening between them and their boyfriend, their mom, or their best friend, their loved one's do care and sometimes feel hurt. Drugs simply steal and imprison the people who use them.

Not only do drugs cause a person to draw away

By drugs affecting an individual's personality, they may seem to transform into a different person. Drugs will cause some people to commit crazy actions, whether they are hallucinating or just craving more narcotics. For example, a normally honest person may begin to steal in order to support their habit or a person thought to be sane may kill another person in a fit of jealousy or rage due to the mood altering substances that they have abused. A drug user may suffer from depression, irritability, aggression, and may even poses abusive or suicidal behavior. Influenced by drugs, a person can change into someone totally different.

Since a drug user loses interest in almost everything, including their well being, they are gambling with their health and their life. Drugs have the power to not only cause temporary side effects, but also cause permanent damage as well. Common health hazards associated with drug use include fatigue, weight loss, memory loss, strokes, seizures, and heart or kidney failure. Perhaps the greatest health risk is the transmitting of diseases, such as AIDS when sharing dirty needles. Emergency rooms remain filled with drug-related accidents and tragedies usually due to overdosing or self-destructive behavior
