Positive Affects that Sports have on Children
In November 2000, an 11 and 12 year-old championship football game got violent. Not with the kids but with the adult, parents and coaches of the kids. The game was between the Cougars and the Seminoles. The Cougars had been undefeated all season long including an earlier victory over the Seminoles. But this game was different than the earlier meeting of the two little league giants, by halftime the Seminoles led 20-2 and by the end of the game the final score was 27-2. At the end of the game as the kids lined up to shake hands as they did after every game, the parents and coaches got hostile. As Seminole Parents and coaches started rejoicing, the Cougar parents began to take offense. The kids watched from the endzone in disgust as small fights broke out everywhere between the 100 or so adults. This display of poor sportsmanship ruined a lot of the fun for the kids who were there just for a little friendly competition.Sports are very important in developing successful, hard-working, and productive adult members of the community. They have been proven to build self-esteem, produce a level of friendly competition and build character. Each year, upwards of 30 million kids will compete on some sort of sports team. Many of t
The best way that the reader can get involved is to find a program in their area and get involved. Get a hold of the director of the program and ask what kinds of things can be done to help out. Tell them the kinds of ways you can help, your hobbies, interests, talents and skills. All these programs and organizations are desperately in need of volunteers, even if it's only a little amount of time that you can serve. If you don't have time to help out physically they are also in need of funds to keep their facilities up to date and to allow for the staff that they need. These are all very important things that these organizations need and are very simple way that the reader can help solve this problem, on kid at a time. Another crucial organization in giving kids an outlet is the YMCA. The YMCA offers their facility for after school activities, recreation and computer use. There are many athletics programs offered by the YMCA, including basketball, indoor soccer and swimming. The basketball program is a great way to have competitive fun during the younger years. I know this from personal experience since I played for 5 years and now have coached 1 year. The YMCA gives kids a place where they can go to swim, play basketball, stay in shape and participate in many other activities. The YMCA also offers many summer camps and late night weekend activities where kids are safe and supervised but also have fun. The best part about the YMCA is that there is one in virtually every good-sized town. The employees at the YMCA are also very understanding and are willing to talk to troubled kids in their towns. They also have places where kids can hang out and have fun while their parents work out. As you can see The Boys and Girls Clubs of America has a major influence and has the capability to influence many kids. The Boys and Girls Clubs of America has served 3.3 million boys and girls, they have 2,851 locations, they are located in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, plus domestic and international military bases (bgca.org/facts). The Boys and Girls Clubs of America has a varying membership, 49% live in single parent families, 63% are minorities, 18% are 7 and under, 29% are 8-10, 29% are 11-13, 24% are 14-18, 56% male and 44% female. As you can see The Boys and Girls Clubs of America has a mass influence in many regions and too many children.
