Without social control the main characters would not be in the position to acquire power. There lives were controlled by the class or caste they were born into, and because of the hardships they faced in their caste, they acquired power. Phoolan Devi was born into a low caste. Being female she was no use to her family so she was wed as soon as possible by her father, and because of this was raped at a young age and so started her life as the Bandit Queen. The same goes for Maya; a decision against a higher class caused for her to be exiled and so she became a student of the Kama Sutra. The Deceivers is more difficult to understand, again the western movie draws away from the other films in that a woman from a lower caste is trying to disvalue gender roles and acquire power, but in The Deceivers a man from a higher caste is trying to gain power from a woman goddess in a lower caste.
