Communication apprehension has many forms but is most severe and common in public speaking. According to J. McCroskey, "Home environmental factors such as the amount of family talk and parent-child interaction styles predict children's communication behavior." There are many theories of the causes of communication apprehension. Being in a new or different situation, this type is generated because you are put in a situation that you are not familiar with. You see yourself as having subordinate status, when you think that others are better than you anxiety is increased. You feel conspicuous, like when you are the center of attention, this causes anxiety to increase because all eyes are on you.
