Marijuana is a substance that has become very much a part of American culture. Nearly 65 million Americans have either used it occasionally or regularly. The use of marijuana hit America about thirty years ago and has been accepted by a large section of society ever since. The debate on whether this substance should be legalized or not remains a topic today. Marijuana should be legal because it can be used for medical use, puts too many people in jail, is not as dangerous as alcohol and cigarettes, and would lower the cost of marijuana so people wouldn't throw away money
Marijuana is a good medicine for sick patients therefore it should be legalized. Most patients say marijuana helps them feel better. For example, patients use marijuana to fight symptoms caused by their sickness. This quote shows how it helps. "[Doctors and nurses] had all had patients who had used marijuana to fight nausea and who have reported good results"(Dudley 39). That is saying that marijuana is an effective w
ay to help fight off bad symptoms. Marijuana is a good medicine to help get rid of bad feelings.
Cigarettes and alcohol are more dangerous than marijuana, which are legal and should make marijuana legal. A lot of research has been done to prove it. Cigarettes are horrible for health and alcohol causes many bad things to happen. This quote shows how marijuana is less harmful then tobacco and alcohol."[Expert] do believe that moderate marijuana use is relatively less harmful to the user than either tobacco or alcohol" (Dudley 10). Cigarettes and alcohol are legal and cause more of a health problem then marijuana. The next quote shows the peoples rights. "For example, any risk presented by marijuana smoking falls well within the choice we permit the individual in a free society" (Dudley 10). In society, people that smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol have the right to do so which should make marijuana smoking a right. For this reason marijuana should be legal because it is not as harmful
