Autobiography of Malcolm X
I formed a team to burglarize houses to make money. We started to burglarize houses and sent the goods to a fence. The fence would pay us cash for the goods. On one of our burglaries, I found this good watch and kept it. When I went to try and fix the watch, I found out that the owner of the watch alerted the jewelers to look out for the watch. They arrested me on the spot. The caught everyone but Rudy. The title of the book is The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Alex Haley wrote it. The Ballantine Publishing Group published it. The setting for Malcolm X is America and in Africa. The book is set over a 4-decade period. Wendy Smith on Amazon.com in 2001 said that it belongs on the small shelf of great autobiographies. I also agree with this. There are not many books that leave a mark like it did. She also says that the reasons are many: the blistering honesty with which he recounts his transformation from a bitter, self-destructive petty criminal into an articulate political activist, the continued relevance of his militant analysis of white racism, and his emphasis on self-respect and self-help for African Americans. I also agree with this. This book did so many good things for the African American community. It showed people what was really going on with African American people. Coldsteel7 at epinions.com on Apr 3, 02 wrote that when he read the book in middle school he interpreted it a lot different, then when he read it 22 years later. The also said that the most interesting aspect was that it was created through a series of interviews between Malcolm X and Alex Haley. He said that his personal recollections of the book were that Malcolm X was a convicted felon that hated white people, and only wanted to better his own race. Following a trip to Mecca, Malcolm realized that all people are allowed to experience the grace of Allah, and that his personal prejudices interfered with his beliefs. However, his own people killed him shortly thereafter. I agree with him entirely. The way you interpret some thing at a young age, is very different from how you interpret it when you are older. I also agree that the most interesting aspect was that the autobiography was made just by interviews. It seems very hard to write a biography on someone just by talking to him. The book starts off with Malcolm in Lansing. The KKK murders his father. His mom was unable to get a job because of his father's reputation. She asks the Welfare Department for help. Because of Malcolm's mother's depression, the state takes her children. Malcolm is sent to a foster family. The rest of the children are sent to friends of the family who agree to take care of them. Malcolm holds the Welfare Department for breaking up the family. Malcolm quits school after the 8th grade and goes to leave with Ella in Boston. Shorty hooks him up with a job of shining shoes. While he is in Boston he meets a girl named Laura. He starts to date Laura until he meets Sophia. She is a white girl, but she loves to hang out with black guys. He gets a job working on a railr
