Friends
"Lexi honey, we have some good but bad news for you," said Maryanne Dion, Alexis's mother as she walked through the door after soccer practice. Alexis set down her green sports bag with the wolf design on the sides and sat down to listen to her mother. "What is it mom?" asked Alexis curiously. "Well," she started, "Your father was just offered a job at Middlebury College in Vermont... We are thinking of moving in Mid-October to a house in Bristol, a small town near by." Alexis's mind started to race before she could say a word. Leaving the sunny place of Santa Cruz, California, where she can go to the beach when ever she wants, and hang with her friends that she has known practically all her life. That would be just hell! The only thing that she knew about Vermont was that it was all the way on the other side of the country, cold, and there were a bunch of red-necks there. She had to find some way to make her parents change their minds. "You are kidding aren't you? This is my senior year of high school!!! I would be leaving so much! Come on mom! Think! I would be leaving seventeen years of friends, my spot as captain of the soccer team!" Alexis argued her head racing. "Well, this job is paying a lot better th
The weekend finally ended and Alexis and Carissa had become pretty good friends. Alexis realized how down to earth Carissa was. She didn't spend all of her time talking about the newest CD by the hottest band, or what happened to that weird kid in her AP Biology class. She talked about real things that mattered in life. Like the whole September 11th catastrophe, what kind of things she was interested in and what she was doing after high school. It wasn't all intellectual talk though; they talked about all the things teen girls talk about as well. It was hell trying to wait for the weekend to get over. She finally found a friend named Carissa who lived in the house nest door. She was tall, surprisingly tan for the climate, and had long hair with green eyes. She seemed really athletic and friendly. Alexis was coming back from a run that she had taken around town to see what it looked like and she met Carissa who was out reading on her front porch. "That's so cool!!! California? That must have been so awesome! Too bad you moved her huh?" "For Winter Carnival Court," announced a 10th grader who helped coordinate the dance, "Carissa Plank, Kelsey Donelly, Julia Charron, and Jackie Quinn!" Lexi quickly congratulated Carissa for her getting on court and watched her be escorted to the makeshift platform they built in the gym. They announced the guys on court, prince and princess and now it was time for King and Queen. Lexi stood anxiously waiting with her friend Veronica from soccer while they announced King-"Mike Hansen!" and Queen-"Lexi Dion!!!" She was so excited!!! As she neared the platform she saw that Carissa wasn't smiling or anything. Isn't she happy for me? Lexi asked herself. She just let it some what slide for the night. She wasn't going to let it ruin her perfect night. "Um..." Alexis hesitated, "My name is Alexis. I used to live in Santa Cruz, California, but my dad got a job at Middlebury College, so we had to move here..." As they were leaving to go to Veronica's party after the dance Carissa didn't seem that happy. Even after Lexi congratulated on her getting on court. Was Carissa jealous? I guess she might be... said Lexi to herself. Carissa was used to getting the best at everything. She was the captain of the soccer team, on Varsity since freshman, Valedictorian (at the moment) and the best singer in school. Lexi just guessed it was a little jealousy that Carissa would get over because they were such good friends; she knew that she wouldn't let that get between them. an your father's current job, so it would be the best for our family. I know that you would be missing a lot, but I am sure that you could make the team in Bristol. I think the school may be called Mt.Abe..." Her mom explained.
